Dr. Al-Kadi earned her PhD from Roehampton University in London in 2017 for her dissertation: Egyptian Television in Transition: Towards the Development of product placement policy recommendations. Both her masters and Ph.D. topics have focused on how advertising and related promotional practices are influenced by broader media regulatory policies, consumerist objectives, economic forces, and cultural factors. Her published research and conference papers have also attempted to examine the Egyptian broadcasting landscape in relation to prominent marketing and media theories as well as various international broadcast models. Accordingly, she has supervised integrated marketing communications graduation projects and lectured on creative advertising strategy and copywriting.
Dr. Al-Kadi has been teaching mass communication to undergraduates and masers students at the American University in Cairo (AUC), since 2010. She is also currently a lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire. In 2020, Dr. Tara Al-Kadi joined the Swiss School of Management (SSM) in Egypt, as a lecturer of international luxury branding for MBA students. Previously, Dr. Al-Kadi worked as an assistant professor at the University of Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA). She regularly supervises MA defense theses and moderates media and communication conferences as a reader at AUC.
Despite teaching various advertising and media communications-related subjects, she has been, particularly, passionate about the subject of media, communication, and promotional ethics. She was selected as a senior Researcher for the formulation of the UNICEF Media Code of Conduct for Children and Families in Egypt. Her main contribution was to assess and propose regulations for the marketing, advertising, and promotional content of the code.
Additionally, she was recently a panelist, content-supervisor, as well as as a moderator of ethics track for journalists covering Covid-19 under the Facebook Journalism Project, in Collaboration with the Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism, School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, at the American University in Cairo.
Moreover, Dr. Al-Kadi has conducted training for government and private Arab media professionals since 2011. In order to encourage discussions in this area, she has also created the Facebook group: “Egyptian Media Ethics Society” where she engages media professionals, undergraduate and graduate students in debates about relevant issues influencing the Egyptian and global media landscape.
Her other Facebook page “Creative Ads by my Students” is dedicated to showcasing the work of her students displaying originally created advertising and promotional campaigns for advertising agencies and real-world clients.
Over the past few years, Dr. Al-Kadi has entered the field of coaching and mentoring obtaining a certification as a life coach and career coach to help students make informed university specialization and career decisions.
